Coach Ginny Bates

Hi, my name is Ginny Bates. I love, love, love being a Playball Coach – other than being a mom, this is the best job in the world!

I was born in Coral Gables, Florida (grew up playing competitive junior tennis) and moved to Georgia when I went to college to pursue my teaching degree at the University of Georgia in Athens. I am certified to teach Physical Education and Health in grades K-12. I also took a lot of classes in Excercise Science because I was considering physical therapy as well. While there in school, I worked for the UGA men’s tennis coach, helping with summer Bulldog tennis camps and the NCAA tennis championships, as well as working as a referee in the intraural dept. and coaching volleyball.

After college, I moved to the metro Atlanta area to teach elementary PE in several different public schools in Gwinnett and Cobb County. I took a hiatus from teaching for a while to have children and then went back to teaching PE in the private school sector, as well as having the privilege to be able to homeschool our 2 oldest kids in their younger years.

I’ve been happily married to Lee Bates for almost 28 years and we are blessed with 3 children: our oldest daughter works in youth ministry in Florida, our middle son (you may have met him as he has helped me with one of our Playball Birthday parties last year) is about to graduate in a few months with a Business Management Degree and our youngest son plays NCAA Division I tennis for FGCU, a school in Ft. Myers, FL (you may have met him as he helped me this past summer teach a Playball Tennis Camp).

What do I enjoy doing outside of work? I run, play tennis, teach a ladies’ Bible study. I love family time, having lots of middle schoolers at our house every week in the summers for youth group to swim, play basketball/volleyball and zip line as well as do the  “gladiator bridge”. Playball is an amazing program – I am so thankful to be a part of it.
